N. Babylon Gas Station Employee Robbed After Sandy

Suffolk County Police arrest two North Amityville men who allegedly looted a gas station.

A North Babylon man was robbed at gunpoint early Tuesday morning when the gas station he works at in Amityville, lost electrical power during the storm and was looted by two men, police said.

Husamettin Ozbay, 30, was working overnight at the Mega Gas station in Amityville when the station lost electrical power due to the storm. 

According to police, the station, located at 624 Broadway, was operating on a small generator and selling assorted items when a man knocked on the station’s door at 3:50 a.m.

Police said that when Ozbay unlocked the door, a man armed with a shotgun pushed his way in and ordered Ozbay and another employee to get down on the floor behind the register. Two additional men entered the store and stole cash, cigars and assorted cigarettes. All three men fled on foot and a notification describing the suspects was broadcast.

Following the tip, First Precinct Patrol Officers Brian Raleigh and John Angus observed a suspicious vehicle in the area and noticed that two men in the car matched the suspects’ description. The officers arrested Kurt Kronemberg, 22, of and Nicholas Norman, 22, both of North Amityville.

Kronemberg and Norman were charged with robbery in the first degree and criminal possession of marijuana in the fifth degree.

Ozbay and the other employee were not injured in the robbery.
