N. Babylon's Tyler Botte Shining for Hofstra Soccer

Junior is named student-athlete of the week.

North Babylon's Tyler Botte has been named the GoHofstra.com Student-Athlete of the Week.

Botte, a defender on Hofstra's men's soccer team, claimed the honor after tallying his first career multi-goal game as part of a seven-point onslaught to lead Hofstra to recent road wins over Binghamton and Albany, according to GoHofstra.com.

The Hofstra junior scored two goals against the Bearcats and tallied a goal and an assist versus the Great Danes to help the Pride improve to 4-0-1, propelling Hofstra to its best start since 1985.

Botte picked up his first goal of 2012 in the 29th minute against Binghamton when the 6-foot-3 defender headed in Chris Griebsch's corner kick. Botte, who scored four goals as a sophomore, would net his first career game-winner when he scored off a rebound in the 65th minute to secure a 3-2 win for the Pride.

After going down, 1-0, to Albany on Sunday, Botte scored an unassisted goal in the 72nd minute and assisted on Shaun Foster's game-winner just 3:09 later to give the Pride a win over the Great Danes.
