Let's Go Fly a Kite! Smart Summer Fun in the Sun!

Let's Go Fly a Kite!

As the final days of the school year wound down, students at Saints Cyril and Methodius designed and constructed kites, bringing out their inner artist, while simultaneously flexing their mental muscles!

According to Aviation for Kids, manipulating the materials needed to construct a kite increases fine motor skills, while measuring materials before assembly improves math skills.  Building a kite with your child can also help him or her learn about lift, drag, tension, center of gravity, center of pressure and torque, all concepts that help a growing mind make sense of the fundamental laws of physics.

Deltas, Diamonds and Dragon kites fly well in light to medium winds (approximately 6-15 mph) while Box Kites and stickless Parafoil kites fly better when the winds get a little stronger (approximately 8-25 mph).
