Winter Concert at Saints Cyril and Methodius

Music Smarts at SSCM:

Students at Saints Cyril and Methodius School (SSCM) in Deer Park had a chance to showcase their skills in the school’s Winter Concert, with families and students alike joining in to end the performance with a rousing chorus of their school song “Our School Spirit is the Holy Spirit!”  Music is alive and well at SSCM and with recent research suggesting that music programs in schools facilitate far more than simply musical ability in students, it's something to sing about!

Studies show that learning to read music, sing, or play an instrument exercises more than just the fingers and vocal chords, so with SSCM students taking part in music as part of their regular weekly specials programs and participating in the school orchestra, violin ensemble and the school choir, it’s no small wonder that 100% of the students who graduate from SSCM are reportedly accepted into their number one choice of high school across the board.

Such studies go on to suggest that music education leads to larger growth of neural activity that lends itself to higher IQs, sharper spatial-temporal skills and improved test scores.
