Dec. 2: Jump in Flu Cases

Here are five things to know about today in Deer Park and North Babylon.

1. New York State has seen a steep jump in flu cases this year, Suffolk County Department of Health Services said. National Influenza Vaccination Week runs from Dec. 2 through Dec. 8. For more information, visit www.cdc.gov.

2. The Suffolk County Board of Health this week said it will suggest legislation to ban the sale of energy drinks to anyone younger than 19 years old, over concerns that the caffeine levels can be hazardous — or even deadly — to children.

3. It's adult game day at the North Babylon Public Library at 1 p.m. Bring your friends and board or card games to play. Coffee and tea will be served. No registration required.

4. Winter Break has been modified in the Deer Park School District and canceled in the North Babylon School District in order to make up lost class days after Hurricane Sandy.

5. Expect a mix of clouds and sun today with a high of 57 degrees.
