Locals Tell Us Where Stop Signs Are Needed in Town

We asked which roads you think help is needed.

On Monday, we asked readers to tell us which roads in the area were in desperate need of a stop sign. Many responded with their suggestions of local roads where they have seen too many accidents or people are speeding and need to be slowed down.

Many people suggested roads where needed stop signs while some said stop signs get ignored and there needs to be traffic lights at troublesome corners. Other lamented that stop signs have become "optional" for some drivers making for very dangerous situations on the road.

Here is a sample of what people told us:

Steven Cayea: I believe we need more stop sign enforcement... things are worse than just the old fashioned "California roll" these days

Kristine Gabel: Osceola Avenue & Brooklyn Street in Deer Park.

Lillian Munoz Hasemann: Absolutely at the corner of Brooklyn and Osceola!! The speeding is ridiculous! Especially that it will be our kids bus stop this fall is scary.

Nancy Kirby: Beebe Court and Garnet need enforcing we have stop signs but that doesn't seem to matter..my daughter bus stop is at the corner. My 7-year-old,I and my mother have almost been hit on numerous occasions crossing the street to her stop by people going through the stop sign to try and make the DPA light..never a cop in sight unless I call (which I have done several times throughout the years)

Marlene Burkitt Casserly: I'm not sure about stop signs, but they need to do something with the light on the corner of long island ave and commack rd in deer park.

Celeste Piazza Meehan: Commack road near lloyd.

Bette Stahl: What do we need more stop signs for... no one stops for them anyway.

Ima Watchin: I totally agree, I can barely get off of my street, not for lack of stop signs but because no one ever stops at them! We don't need more signs, we just need drivers who actually follow the rules of the road!

Patty Ames: Stop signs in Deer Park have become optional. Not only don't drivers stop for them, they actually speed up to go through! You take your life in your hands driving down side streets as everyone barrels across the avenues. So sad.
