Nov. 29: Teen Volunteer Opportunities

Here are five things to know about today in Deer Park and North Babylon.

1. The Deer Park Library's children’s services department is looking for teen volunteers. On Friday, Dec. 7 from 4 p.m. until 5:30 p.m., teens in grades eight through 12 can help make warm scarves and cuddly pillows for children in local shelters. Volunteers will receive community service credit hours. Register now at the Children’s Reference Desk or call (631) 586-3000.

2. Like to read? If you’re in seventh through 12th grade, the Deer Park Library needs your help. How would you like to read great books and write reviews for a Teen Blog? You can earn one hour of community service for every review, and up to 10 hours for the school year. For more information, call (631) 586-3000.  Click here to visit TeenSpeak, the library's teen blog.

3. Winter Break is canceled in both the Deer Park and North Babylon School Districts. In Deer Park, a regular class schedule will take place on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (Feb. 19 through Feb. 21) of Midwinter Recess. Students will have off on Monday, February 18 for President's Day, as well as on Friday, Feb. 22. In North Babylon, students will have a regular class schedule from Feb. 19 through Feb. 22.
