About one month ago, the New York Islanders threw one of their more successful viewing parties, when Buffalo Wild Wings on Deer Park Avenue in North Babylon filled up with fans.
The Isles lost to the playoff-bound Philadelphia Flyers, but the party left Isles marketers telling us, "this is great, this is Islanders country, apparently."
One of our favorite Patch supporters from Sayville, Dee Karl, wrote a post about it for the well-known hockey blog hockeybuzz.com. She also gave us a nice shoutout on her personal blog for showing up.
Today, the playoffs have moved on without the Isles. But the team is still in the news. This time a state Department of Labor investigation about dangerous levels of asbestos have some wondering if that may be used as an excuse to get the Isles out of the Nassau Coliseum before their lease expires in 2015.
Check out the Brooklyn Courier report, which goes into pretty good detail.
We also snapped a picture of the Brooklyn-based publication's front cover. The Isles graced it.
