A Grand Slam breakfast in North Babylon?

That might be a reality soon as Denny's restaurant has set its sights on the former Continental Diner location on Deer Park Avenue.

"We can confirm that Denny’s restaurant has visited the planning department expressing interest in this site," a Babylon Town spokesman told Patch. "They were told that the first step is to submit a “Bar-Restaurant” application to authorize that use at that site."

Denny's has not yet submitted that application following its visit to Town Hall last week, the spokesman said.

The Continental Diner closed over the summer at the potential Denny's site located at 1143 Deer Park Avenue, just north of the Southern State Parkway.

There are currently three Denny's restaurants on Long Island–in Centereach, Levittown and Carle Place. They are traditionally open 24/7.

A Denny's spokesman declined to comment on a possible North Babylon restaurant.

a good steak house would be nice enough with the fast food DPA has enough of them what we need is good quality food not fast food

No not really we don't need another 24/7 fast food restaurant the available parking is not enough, and oh yeah do we really need more traffic on DPA?

I can't wait for them to open.

Apparently some are not familiar with Denny's. Denny's offers a full menu and its food is a far cry from the fast food drive throughs.

Yes. Bring on Denny's. My kids would go there lots.

Denny's food a far cry from fast food?? It's fast food in a sit down environment. I am all for a Denny's but not in that spot. It's way to small for the volume Denny's will draw and there is not enough parking. I'm envisioning a sonic drive-thru situation with lines and lines of cars waiting except this time it will impact the southern state as well.

I agree Bobbie Jo D, the last thing we need is more fast food, and Denny's is a terrible idea. As someone who delivers food and knows these roads like the back of my hand, there is already enough traffic there from 4-8pm almost everyday. People barely know how to handle the merge from 3 lanes to 2 lanes on Deer Park Avenue in current traffic conditions nevermind adding another "Sonic-esque" location into the mix.
Michael Goldstein January 27, 2014 at 11:47 PM
It sounds to me that whoever Michelangelo DiLavore delivers for doesn't want competition from Denny's

Look, I'm not defending or singing the praises of Denny's. However , it is not considered a fast food grab on the run food dispenser. It is a sit down restaurant with waiter service and a menu that is not solely served on a bun. I realize that parking is already stressed to the limit on that strip and traffic logistics at that point on DPA is a concern but just how much traffic do you think will be a result of Denny's? They are not building a Walmart there. After the shine wears off it will be fine, just like Sonic.

I had no idea The Continental was closed. They were always so busy. As for Denny's, I always liked them. Especially their breakfast. I like the idea.
