Halloween Store Temporarily Fills Empty Sears Hardware

Spirit Halloween will be open until mid-November in North Babylon.

Spirit Halloween, a pop up holiday theme store, is temporarily open at the former Sears Appliances and Hardware location on the corner of Deer Park Avenue and Bay Shore Road in North Babylon.

It is a busy time for the specialty store, with Halloween about a month away, but the business will have to compete with Party City, located just three miles South on Deer Park Avenue.

Spirit Halloween will close up shop in mid-November.

The Sears Appliances and Hardware store at the 20 Bay Shore Road location, closed in April when the company began shutting down its under-performing stores.

The hardware store faced a losing battle against the ever-present Home Depot chain. Home Depot has a Deer Park store on Commack Road, near Tanger Outlets. It has a second store up the road in Commack. Sears also had to compete for customers with Lowe's on Sunrise Highway in Bay Shore.

I think this is great...something in the empty space to give people a reason to enter the doors. Much better than a boarded up large store front. Can do the same for the Christmas Holiday's too. Just a thought....Landlords don't collect any rent if the space remains empty and it becomes an eye sore to the area if the building is left unattended. This space might be put to good use for people of the community to have their winter garage sales in. Rent a space (like the Flea markets of years ago did) and let all resident's sell their unwanted things in one place rather than on many streets.
