Ocean State Job Lot Opens in North Babylon

Ocean State Job Lot will celebrate the grand opening of its first Long Island store in North Babylon on Saturday. 

Ocean State Job Lot opened its doors for business at 1480 Deer Park Avenue in the Deer Park Commons Plaza on March 29. It has taken over the previous Recreational Pool Supply. 

The Rhode Island-based closeout retail store was started 1977 and its three principal owners are Long Island natives, brothers Alan and Marc Perlman, and Steve Aronon. The idea behind the franchise is to sell manufacturer's overrun and overstocked products at a discounted price to consumers, according to the company's website.

“We’re looking forward to serving the Greater Babylon community,” said Alan Perlman in a written statement. “If there’s one place that can truly appreciate our unique brand of value and everyday low prices, it’s Long Island. We’re very happy to be coming home.”

The 35,000-square-foot store will employ 40 full-time and part-time sale associates, operations and customers service representatives. 

A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at noon on Saturday with store executives and local politicians, including Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer. The day's festivities will include an appearance by Cinderella from Broadhollow’s Bayway Arts Center, special drawings to win a $200 shopping spree and fishing gear giveaway, and more. 

At the Grand Opening celebration, Ocean State Job Lot will present two donations to local non-profit organizations: a tractor-trailer full of shelf-stable food to Long Island Cares of Hauppauge and a gift of sponsorship to Southampton-based Honor Flight of Long Island, which flies veterans to see the World War II memorial in Washington D.C. 

Ocean State Job Lot has seven stores in New York, with a total of 109 stores across the New England and New York state area.
