Verizon Wireless Revamps Service Plans

The cell phone giant's new plans go into effect on June 28.

Verizon Wireless has overhauled its service plans to allow customers to use their data allotments across multiple devices.

Up until now, Verizon and its largest competitors have had to pay separate data charges for each device.

The nation's largest cell phone provider's new plans, which also change how customers pay for texting and phone calls, will go into effect on June 28.

"Today's move by Verizon ... is the most profound change to pricing the telecom industry has seen in 20 years," Craig Moffett, an analyst for Sanford C. Bernstein, wrote in a research note.

Chief rival AT&T could follow suit very soon, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The Journal also put together a Q&A on what Verizon's "Share Everything" plan means for current customers. A couple highlights:

  • Customers on a tiered data plan can stay on their current plan or switch to a new one. Customers on an unlimited data plan must switch when they buy a new phone at a discount.
  • There is a monthly charge for each device on a data plan. The Q&A breaks it down.

So, how much will the new plan cost you? That depends on all sorts of factors, but Verizon Wireless has a calculator on its website to help figure that out.

LOL! Just about DOUBLES the cost of present plans. What's not for AT&T to like? Can you say oligopoly?

Verizon's botched 'Share Everything' launch could sink carrier
New Verizon Share Everything plan is too complex for customers to grasp all at once, and it's too expensive, analyst says By Matt Hamblen June 13, 2012 01:01 PM ET25 Comments . What's this? Computerworld - Verizon Wireless botched the launch of its Share Everything voice, texting and data plans by making too many drastic and costly changes at once, analysts said Wednesday. "Big steps like [Share Everything], particularly when they come with sharp [price] increases, tend to scare the hell out of existing customers, and Verizon might actually lose a bunch as a result," said Rob Enderle, an analyst at Enderle Group. The widespread negative reaction by customers on various Web sites seen after Tuesday's announcement "is similar to the Netflix mistake last year that almost sunk that company," Enderle said. http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9228059/Verizon_s_botched_Share_Everything_launch_could_sink_carrier

Why don't you call Verizon and tell them to stuff it? Take your business to another provider. When prices rise too much, vote with your pocket book. Or do without the service for awhile. If prices are out of line, they will come down. The law of supply and demand still applies. Consumers have to stop acting like sheep. Fight back!

Currently have unlimited smartphone data and 5GB/mo wifi hot spot for laptop and tablet for cheaper than that plan would cost for less data

Verizons share everything plan saved my family over 80 a month. Now that we can all share the data instead of have four 30$ charges, we save alot. I love Verizons service and will never change
majortom1981 August 20, 2012 at 01:45 pm
How does it save you anything?Keep in mind with that $30 a month it gives each person 2 gig. The cheapest share everything is everybody only gets 2gigabytes of data .
So they are hiding the fact that it will be mor eexpensive. I hope you are reading into your bill . Data overages will make your bill very very expensive.

I honestly would pay the increase. I have At&T and let me tell you, sometimes trying to get service in simple places is more difficult than breaking a brick wall with my head. So ditching them when the contract is up
