A car crashed into a tree in Deer Park Wednesday afternoon just as police were about to pull the vehicle over for speeding.
Police said an officer saw the car travelling at a high rate of speed and "made a U-turn to affect a traffic stop but the driver had turned down a different block" and crashed into a tree on Tell Avenue around 12:30 p.m.
It is unclear if the officer had activated the lights on the police car before the crash, but a police spokeswoman said the incident was not considered a police pursuit.
The driver of the vehicle that crashed suffered non-life-threatening injuries. First Squad detectives are continuing to investigate.
