Police: Dix Hills Man Arrested For Drag Racing

A Dix Hills man was arrested early Saturday morning on charges of illegal speed contest and reckless driving, Suffolk Police said. 

Raymond Miranda, 21, was driving a 2003 Nissan 350Z and drag racing with a 2002 BMW M3 in East Farmingdale at 12:05 a.m. Saturday, police said. 

As part of an ongoing investigation, First Precinct Crime Section officers witnessed the race and Miranda was arrested. Nicholas Manteria, 18, who was driving the BMW, was also arrested Sunday at his home in Wantagh.

Fake Bomb Addressed to Obama Causes Scare at Car Wash

Police responding to a fake bomb addressed to the President shut down Jericho Turnpike in Commack Wednesday, though the package, found in the trunk of a vehicle at the Commack Hand Car Wash, was a training bomb, officials said.

The scare happened when a worker discovered a Rubbermaid box containing an object covered in wires, tape, flares, along with a letter addressed to "The President of America" with an Arabic name in the return address, in the trunk of a Hyundai Sonata they were beginning to detail.

Driver Gets Up to 12 Years For 7-Eleven Crash that Killed Infant Daughter

A Westbury man who drunkenly drove his car off Motor Parkway into the side of a 7-Eleven in July 2012, killing his 10-month-old daughter, will serve up to 12 years in prison. 

Jose Escobar, 30, pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated, aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child under Leandra's Law, aggravated vehicular homicide, manslaughter, endangering the welfare of a child, reckless driving and other crimes on July 19, 2012, Newsday reports.
