An instructor at North Babylon's Fitzgerald’s Driving School was killed in a crash in Port Jefferson Station Monday afternoon, police said.
Leonard Sloan, 59, of Manorville, was driving a 2011 Chevy Malibu owned by Fitzgerald's westbound on Nesconset Highway when he apparently lost control of the vehicle and crossed over onto oncoming traffic around 12:55 p.m., police said.
The Malibu struck three vehicles in the eastbound turning lane that were waiting to turn left onto Davis Avenue, police said.
Detectives believe that Sloan, who did not have any passengers in the vehicle, may have had a medical event prior to the crash.
Sloan was transported to St. Charles Hospital in Port Jefferson by Terryville Rescue where he was pronounced dead. None of the other drivers were injured.
All four vehicles were impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to call the Sixth Squad at 631-854-8652.
