LIPA: Many Without Power Tuesday Morning

More than 9,300 outages reported in Deer Park and North Babylon a day after Sandy.

Sandy, which was labeled a post-tropical cyclone by the time it hit New Jersey,  delivered on predictions and has impacted power for nearly 80 percent of Long Island Tuesday.

Suffolk County had 441,958 residents without power as of 6:38 a.m. Tuesday. Of that total 441,958 are from the Town of Babylon, according to LIPA's Storm Center Outage website.

According to LIPA, Deer Park currently has 5,475 outages and North Babylon has 3,850. West Babylon got the worst of it with 18,490

Estimated times of restoration are still not available through LIPA, however crews are were working to restore power by 7 a.m. Tuesday.

The power authority warns residents to be prepared to be without power for at least 7 to 10 days.

"The enormity and intensity of this storm is straining the resources of utilities in the path of Hurricane Sandy, particularly in the Northeast. This limits the number of repair crews available to assist us in restoring power. We have already secured off-Island crews and continue to request additional resources to supplement our workforce," LIPA said in a statement.
