A local man who was expected to return to the Deer Park train station after work last week and never returned is still missing.

Robert Mayer, 46, who lives in Dix Hills with his wife Ida and their two children, left for work last Friday for his job as an electrician in Brooklyn, but he never made it back home.

“We spoke in the morning at nine, when he was at work, and he was fine,” Ida said with a distraught voice, in an earlier interview with Patch. The pair has been married for 18 years.

Ida expected her husband home around 3 p.m. that day. She had called and texted him in the afternoon, but he never answered and his phone went dead around 2:45 p.m.

Ida said that police were last able to track Mayer's cell phone signal around Route 110 in Huntington, while he was on his way home around 1:45 p.m.

Ida said that her husband drove his red 2004 Pontiac into work, but police found his vehicle at the Deer Park train station. She said that she didn't know how his car got there, since Mayer never took the train for work because he worried about leaving his car unattended at the station.

Mayer also left his wallet at home in the family’s garage that morning.

Ida described her husband as a very reliable person, who had never gone missing before. She said that he would have never missed Father's Day with his children.

Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives are investigating the situation. Police said that no criminality is believed to have taken place at this point, however, detectives are following all leads.

Mayer is described to be likely unshaven, in construction worker-type clothing and wearing a baseball cap. Anyone with information is being asked to call police at 631-854-8252.
