Local House Explosion Victim Remains in Critical Condition

North Babylon resident continues treatment at Stony Brook University Medical Center.

A North Babylon woman who was was seriously injured in a house explosion last Tuesday in Brentwood, remains in critical condition at Stony Brook University Medical Center, a representative from the hospital's media relations said Tuesday.

Patricia Salegna-Maqueda, a State Farm Insurance representative was at the residence of 12 Prospect Drive in Brentwood regarding a claim submitted for flooding when the house exploded at 11:55 a.m. on Aug. 14.

Suffolk Police are eyeing two 200-pound propane that were installed outside of the home without a required permit as the source of the explosion, which also killed an 18-month-old boy and injured 17 others. Propane tanks larger than 20-pounds require a permit in the Town of Islip. No definitive cause of the blast has been made.

Hospital officials did not comment further on Salegna-Maqueda's injuries, due to privacy laws.
