A look back at five blazes around town in 2013.

Deer Park and North Babylon firefighters are always ready at a moment's notice to rush to a fire to keep our families and community safe. 

Here we take a look back at five blazes that burned around town in 2013: 

Fire Engulfs Phelps Lane Home, One Firefighter Hurt

A fire in August destroyed a home on Phelps Lane at the corner of Pacific Street near North Babylon High School. One North Babylon firefighter was transported to the hospital with minor burns. No one in the home at the time was injured. 

Fire Rips Through Deer Park Home

A fire broke out in the basement of a Deer Park home in July. The fire also ripped through the rear portion of the home located at 185 Cayuga Avenue. The Deer Park Fire Department, with an assist from the Dix Hills Fire Department, got the blaze under control in less than a half hour.

N. Babylon Garage Goes Up in Flames, Two Treated for Smoke Inhalation

A fire in North Babylon in June sent two people to the hospital. A resident at 80 Independence Avenue was working on one of his two cars that were parked in a detached garage "when something ignited" shortly before 3:30 p.m., police said. 

The resident and his wife were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital, where they were treated for smoke inhalation, police said.  

Deer Park Fire Quickly Snuffed Out

A fire at a house on E. 4th Street in Deer Park was quickly put out in February. No one was hurt, according to firefighters, who added that the fire may have started in the garage.

Two Deer Park Homes Damaged in Fire

Several fire departments responded to the scene of a blaze in Deer Park in January.

The fire appeared to have started inside the garage of a home at 150 W. 20th Street and then spread to the north side of the home next door at 156 W. 20th Street.
