N. Babylon Garage Goes Up in Flames, Two Treated for Smoke Inhalation

Resident was working on a car in his garage on Independence Avenue when fire started Sunday afternoon, police say.

A fire in North Babylon Sunday afternoon sent two people to the hospital, according to Suffolk Police. 

A resident at 80 Independence Avenue was working on one of his two cars that were parked in a detached garage "when something ignited" shortly before 3:30 p.m., police said. 

The resident and his wife were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital, where they were treated for smoke inhalation, police said. 

The North Babylon Fire Department was able to contain the fire to the garage, which was damaged along with the two vehicles inside.
