A car crashed into a tree in Deer Park Wednesday afternoon just as police were about to pull the vehicle over for speeding. Police said an officer saw the car travelling at a high rate of speed and "made a U-turn to affect a traffic stop but the driver had turned down a different block" and crashed into a tree on Tell Avenue around 12:30 p.m.

A 26-year-old died in a crash on the Northern State Parkway in Dix Hills early Monday morning and the driver of the vehicle is under arrest for driving while intoxicated, State Police said.

A Mastic Beach man was fatally shot in front of a Ronkonkoma bar early Saturday morning, police said. Sixth Precinct officers responded to a 911 call of a shooting in front of Empire Bar and Lounge, at 2 Warren Avenue, at 3:16 a.m. and upon arriving on the scene, there was a large crowd outside and people were fighting, police said.

An East Patchogue man was killed Sunday night in a car crash in East Patchogue, said Suffolk County Police. Police said the man, Jose Fuentes, 39. was crossing East Main Street at the intersection of Conklin Avenue at around 8 p.m. when he was struck by a white 2005 Nissan Maxima that was traveling eastbound on East Main Street.
