One Person Critically Injured in N. Babylon Crash Involving SUV, Three Motorcycles

One motorcyclist critically hurt; woman and granddaughter in SUV escape serious injury.

One person was critically injured in a crash involving an SUV and three motorcycles in North Babylon Thursday afternoon, police said.

According to police, Jacqueline Morrison, 54, of Babylon, was driving a Ford Escape with her 3-year-old granddaughter in the vehicle northbound on Deer Park Avenue, just north of Parkdale Drive, at 12:40 p.m. when a 2007 Suzuki motorcycle struck her vehicle from behind.

The impact caused the Ford to lose control and flip over. Morrison and her granddaughter were treated at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.

The motorcyclist, Travis Lovett, 20, of Brentwood was taken to Good Samaritan with a head injury and is currently in critical condition, police said.

Two other motorcycles that were traveling northbound on Deer Park Avenue could not stop in time behind the initial impact and also crashed, police said.

The driver of a 2002 Suzuki left the motorcycle at the scene and fled on foot.  The driver of a 2007 Honda, Stanley Severe, 22, of Deer Park, did not receive medical treatment.

Deer Park Avenue near the scene was closed northbound for more than five hours after the crash.

The investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information about this crash to contact the Vehicular Crime Unit at 631-852-6555 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
