Police: Dix Hills Man Arrested for Fleeing Scene of Serious Crash

William Koster, 31, is charged with felony leaving the scene of an accident.

A Dix Hills man was arrested Sunday and charged with leaving the scene of a serious crash in Deer Park last week, police said. 

William Koster, 31, is charged with leaving the scene of an accident, a felony because someone was seriously injured in the Feb. 24 crash.  

According to police, Koster was driving a 2002 Hyundai Sonata that was traveling eastbound on Grand Boulevard when the vehicle struck a Volvo 18-wheel tractor trailer.

Two passengers in the Hyundai, Daniel Garcia, 20, and Jani Martinez, 33, were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip. Garcia, of North Babylon, had been listed in serious condition and Martinez, of Bay Shore, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the tractor trailer, Christopher Bertovich, 49, of Pennsylvania, was not injured.

Koster was arraigned on Monday and was released on $5,000 bail. 

Koster was arrested in October as well on a DWI charge, according to court documents.
