Bank on Woods Road is robbed Wednesday morning, police say.

Suffolk police are investigating an armed robbery at a Chase Bank in North Babylon Wednesday morning.

Police said a man enterer the bank located at 35 Woods Road at 9:43 a.m. and approached a teller with a note demanding cash and indicating that he had a gun.

The teller gave the man cash from the drawer and he fled on foot northbound on Woods Road, police said.

The robber is described as a black male, approximately 6 feet tall with a thin build. He was wearing a dark knit cap, a dark-colored jacket and blue jeans.

Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.

I came up w/a simple solution, but got nowhere...Designate (1) parking space in FRONT of a bank, and have the SCPD officers stop there as part of their tour, at irregular times. We have the cops, one space is not excessive, and most suburban wannabe robbers wouldn't dare try it! Wrote to Chase, the country exec, SCPD, nobody seems to care. Also, I must agree w/ Eddy re guns. The criminals have them, and posting silly, naive signs about "gun free zones" is childish. Perhaps Ms. Richards should refresh her knowledge of American history. We didn't win because of diplomacy.....

Oh yeah, and make the would-be robbers show their weapon, not just a note! (joke). If those deluded soccer moms living in a 1950's mind-set ever got involved in a real robbery, they'd certainly hope that SOMEONE might save them, whether a police officer or a legally armed concealed carry civilian. Wake up suburbanites!

One final point: unarmed 'square badge' security goons are just another victim, not a deterrent...

Re: Guards , I mean the off duty Moonlighting police officer kind. Another thing may be cameras at each teller window pointing in the face of the customer just like the ATMs have.

Eddy, sorry, I misunderstood...Yeah, those are the pros! But remember please that cameras are just a feel-good PC piece of technocrap that DON'T PREVENT CRIME. Every night we see muggings, car crashes, etc. on the news. Just like those phony red light cameras they create a nice, feel good mindset that has no connection to reality. Likewise, the police seldom prevent crime, although my idea above might work. Long Island is in the middle of a large heroin war, and the young people in HS and up are the users. That is the reason for bank robberies, IMO. We need to recognize this, and work together. The minute that someone is killed in a robbery, folks will talk about armed security. Unfortunately, it won't register on most people until then.
