Sandy Closes Schools in Deer Park and North Babylon

The Deer Park School District will be closed Monday and Tuesday. North Babylon will be closed Monday.

School closures are in effect in the North Babylon and Deer Park districts due to the impending hurricane, officials announced early late Sunday afternoon.

All schools in the Deer Park School District will be closed Monday, Oct. 29 and Tuesday, Oct. 30.

North Babylon schools will be closed Monday, including Almost Home before and after school day care, as well as all before and after school activities.

The North Babylon district may be closed on Tuesday as well, depending on the severity of the storm, Superintendent Patricia Godek announced. 

Residents in North Babylon are advised to keep an ear out for a phone alert regarding Tuesday's classes and school activities.

In addition to the school closings, the entire Town of Babylon is in a State of Emergency pending the arrival of Hurricane Sandy.

Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer issued the executive order of Hurricane Sandy's arrival Sunday afternoon. A mandatory evacuation of the beach communities and all areas south of Montauk Highway in the Town of Babylon, Village of Amityville, Village of Babylon and Village of Lindenhurst, has been ordered.

Residents of these areas are advised to leave the area and seek higher ground.

The Babylon Town Hall Annex (281 Phelps Lane, North Babylon, NY 11703) has been declared a place of safe haven.
