Twelve days after Hurricane Sandy's fury knocked it off the power grid, the Deer Park Library remains closed.
The culprit? A damaged pole on E. 5th Street.
The library said that its board and administration is working on the problem, but it is at the mercy of the much-maligned Long Island Power Authority. LIPA has been under fire for the pace in which its brought customers back online after the Oct. 29 storm.
A colorful sign has been left at the pole, pointing up at the damage.
Meanwhile, in an attempt to speed up the drawn-out process, out-of-state utility workers have been seen throughout the Babylon area.
On its website, the library said that no fines would be charged for items due during the closure.
