Deer Park's Miller's Ale House Honored for Sandy Relief Efforts

Local business opened its doors to the community following hurricane.

Suffolk County Legis. Steve Stern recently awarded Deer Park's Miller’s Ale House general manager Devon Taffel with a proclamation for its dedicated efforts to aid the community in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

In the days immediately following the storm, the Ale House opened its doors to the community to provide meals and comfort for people without power and also served hundreds of meals to residents sheltering at Robert Frost Middle School and first responders at the Deer Park Fire Department.

"I am proud to honor Miller’s Deer Park Ale House, its general manager, Devon Taffel, regional manager Drew Reynolds and the entire Ale House staff for their incredible efforts to provide real comfort and assistance to our community in the immediate aftermath of Super Storm Sandy and for their continued commitment in the difficult months that followed," Stern said in a press release. "Many of the Ale House workers were themselves impacted by the storm, but came to work to provide delicious hot meals to those in need."

The Ale House also prepared 300 Thanksgiving meals for Lindenhurst residents and served a Thanksgiving dinner at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church.  For Christmas, the Ale House staff helped collect toys for children affected by the storm with Camp Bulldog in Lindenhurst.

“It was our pleasure to be able to help and offer assistance in and around our community following the storm," Taffel said. We were overjoyed to be able to make a difference in people’s lives; from providing a cell phone charging station, to just offering a hot meal for those displaced from their homes, it was a truly rewarding experience.
