The Suffolk County Board of Elections on Friday said this week's assault by Hurricane Sandy has forced it to move some polling places for Deer Park residents.
Voters in election districts 47, 95, 112, 132, 137 and 138 who usually vote at Deer Park High Scholl should report to John F. Kennedy Intermediate School to cast their votes on Election Day, the BOE said.
Also, voters in election districts 29, 73, 79, 81, 86, 120, 126 and 239 who usually vote at May Moore Elementary School will now vote at John F. Kennedy Intermediate School, the BOE said.
While the regular lations have changed, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced on Monday that if anyone is unable to get to an assigned polling station, he or she may go to any accessible voting location.
Sandy left her mark in Deer Park by ripping the pool roof off of Deer Park High School.
The BOE also said it is still assessing damages and the power situation at the polls, and as of Friday afternoon had made arrangements to move seven Suffolk polling places in communities including Oak Beach, Ocean Bay Park, Northport, Ocean Beach and Kings Park.
"We are doing everything possible to ensure that our elections will move forward as scheduled," election officials said in a statement.
The BOE added that absentee voting hours have been extended to Saturday from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m., Sunday from from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Monday from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m.
