Gas Shortage Continues to Plague Residents

Gas shortages continued to plague drivers, who waited in line all night to fill their tanks at the few stations that still have gas.

Superstorm Sandy, which tested the strength of Long Island's shores is now testing its residents. Stress and tensions are rising as the recovery process reaches day-five. Neighbors have reported yelling matches and fights at gas stations as locals grow less tolerant of the daily inconveniences, including power outages, spoiled food and poor road conditions.

The good news is that the U.S. Coast Guard opened the Port of New York and New Jersey on Thursday in order to have gasoline and fuel shipments brought into the area, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced. Those low on fuel may want to wait on filling up until the shipments arrive to avoid the long lines.
