King: 'The Republicans Should Not Have Started This'

Long Island representative says the President has to show leadership and get everyone into the room.

Long Island Rep. Peter King didn't mince words at Monday's "Politics and Eggs" event in Nashua, New Hampshire, pointing the finger at his own party for shutting down the federal government.

King cut right to the chase, saying the government shut down should never have happened, and laid blame on some of his fellow Republicans in Washington, D.C.

"That said, it is what it is and the President has an absolute obligation ... to end this," King said.

The event at the Bedford Village Inn is a joint venture by the New Hampshire Institute of Politics and the New England Council, and often features those expected to make a move toward the White House in upcoming elections.

King is on that short list. See what he said when asked if he will be a contender in 2016.
