Newsday reports Lindenhurst resident will face Richard Schaffer in November.

Babylon Town Republicans have chosen a to run against Supervisor Richard Schaffer this .

According to Newsday, of Lindenhurst has been selected. He currently serves as an assistant elections commissioner and previously unsuccessfully ran for elected office against Suffolk County Legislator and Deputy Presiding Officer Wayne Horsley three years ago.

Town Chairman told Newsday that facing Schaffer will be an uphill race, but “the people need to have an opponent, and [he] is a great guy with a lot to offer.”

There was some talk Republicans were considering cross-endorsing Schaffer, but the Supervisor was quoted by Newsday as saying he wouldn't accept a GOP endorsement.

Schaffer, who's also chairman of the Suffolk County Democratic Party, returned to Town Hall following Steve Bellone’s in this past November’s County Executive race.

"Wouldn't accept the GOP nomination"?
That sounds like the height of arrogance to me. When will many of these so called leaders stop putting their party and their ego ahead of their country and community? It would seem kind of fitting if Gallo pulled an upset in November.

When Schaffer pulled a backdoor deal with a fire department AFTER residents painstakingly got a referendum together, and voted NO (2234 to 180) on a Taj Mahal make-over for a dance hall, and lots of extraneous fluff, that is when I stopped respecting this man as a leader in our township back in the early 1990's. I'd vote for Mr. Green Jeans before voting for Schaffer.
