New York State Senator Johnson to Retire

Newsday reports long-time New York State senator to step down after 40 years of service.

State Senator Owen Johnson will not seek re-election this Fall, according to a report on Friday in Newsday.

According to the report, Johnson (R-Babylon) informed party leaders of his decision recently. Local party leaders will now a candidate to replace Johnson on the ballot for this for the Fourth Senate District.

Suffolk Legislator Ricardo Montano had bucked Democratic Party leaders in filing the required number of petitions to the senator.

Johnson was first elected to the state senate in 1972. He's a graduate of Babylon High School. He currently lives in West Babylon with his wife, Christel.

The Fourth Senate District runs along the South Shore of Southwestern Suffolk County, and includes Lindenhurst, West Babylon, Babylon Village, North Babylon, Deer Park and West Islip.
