Town of Babylon Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez and Councilman Tom Donnelly recently presented Rhoda and Marty Newman of North Babylon with an official Town proclamation in celebration of their 65th wedding anniversary.

The Town Board also declared December 18th, 2013 “Rhoda and Marty Newman Day” in the Town of Babylon to mark the couple’s milestone anniversary.  Marty, who served in World War II as a member of the Coast Guard, and Rhoda have three sons and nine grandchildren and continue to be active in the community, including at the Town’s Spangle Drive Senior Center in North Babylon.

How much fun for me to see this article. I grew up on French Avenue, a few houses up from the Newman's. My parents (Fred & Clara May) were somewhat friendly with them and I remember often riding bikes with their sons. I remember one night, it was very dark (and I thought very late), our car broke down on Prairie Drive. I remember feeling very scared (I was young). Anyway, Marty came to help us get our car going! I was grateful. So glad to see their picture, so glad they are blessed to be celebrating their 65th Anniversary! Mary Ellen (May) Moire

Wish to congratulate Marty & Rhoda on their 65th anniversary. Wishing you many many more years together. Marty & my husband Tom were assistant scoutmasters for Troop 176 together and Rhoda & I were in PTA together.
