Traffic Alert: DPA Gets a Refresh

Landscaper work will clog traffic during off-peak hours for about two weeks.

A $40,000 spring cleanup of Deer Park Avenue is underway and will tie up traffic on the main road during midday hours for the next two weeks, according to Babylon Supervisor Richard Schaffer.

The improvements, which include new plantings of flowers, bushes and shrubs on Deer Park Avenue's median, are being paid for by in Deer Park. Tanger opened its local center, The Arches, in 2008. 

"At the time of the approval, they agreed to maintain the Deer Park Avenue median," Schaffer said. "That was negotiated between Tanger and Steve Bellone."

Bellone vacated his position as town supervisor when he was elected Suffolk County Executive last November.

The work, which is being done in stages, will stretch from the Dix Hills-Deer Park border down to North Babylon. On Tuesday, the work was centralized in the area a bit north of in North Babylon. It was cleared up shortly before 3 p.m.
