10 Deer Park Teachers Displaced After Sandy

A raffle will be held next month to help the local educators rebuild their lives.

The Deer Park School District is mostly intact after Hurricane Sandy, however, 10 of its teachers are not.

In total, 10 Deer Park school teachers are now displaced after the superstorm destroyed their homes, Bruce Sander, president of the district's Teachers Association said Tuesday night at a Board of Education meeting.

To help the teachers get back on their feet, the Teachers Association will be auctioning off a home generator in mid-December.

Raffles tickets are $20 each and can be purchased within each school building.

Sander said that the goal is to raise $10,000 so that each teacher can be given $1,000 to help bring their lives back to normal.
