A ‘Shero’ Among Us

North Babylon High School sophomore Atheena Rumph Mims and her “shero” choral director Christina Henderson were recognized at the April 29 general meeting of the Suffolk County Legislature, thanks to Atheena’s countywide winning essay.

To commemorate March as Women’s History Month, Suffolk County Legislature Presiding Officer DuWayne Gregory sponsored a student essay contest for high schoolers. Students were asked to write a short essay about a woman they know personally, but are not related to, whose actions and/or character are an inspiration to them.

During the meeting, Presiding Officer Gregory presented Mrs. Henderson with an official Suffolk County Proclamation for inspiring Atheena.
