Deer Park School Budget Passes

Deer Park residents approved the school district’s $105.93 million proposed budget on Tuesday by a margin of 1,372-560.

The budget calls for a 2.18 percent increase in spending over the current year and carries a 1.63 percent tax levy increase, which is within the state's tax cap.

Five candidates ran for three seats on the Deer Park Board of Education. Incumbent Alfred Centamore ran unopposed. Incumbent Donna Gulli Grunseich defeated challenger Jerry Jean-Pierre and Kristine Rosales beat Anthony Camodeois for a one-year term for the seat Frank Wilkinson resigned from in February.

I would like to thank all the Deer park residents that voted to sell the washington school. It will now be declassified as a school which will allow sex offenders to be housed in that area now. Deer park will be the next ghetto.

Also of the 300 housing units 20 percent will be for low income housing. Not to mention the 5 year tax abatement .

U are assuming all this. Sex offenders have to register, we will get a flier in the mail notifying us of this if it was to happen. That part of DP needs to be freshened up.

@DeerParkLifer ... obviously you don't live within the vicinity of the Washington School or you would be as livid as those of us that do are. What's a flier letting me know a child molester has moved in next door to me going to do? Is that going to stop them from accosting my children? Obviously not. Did you even attend any of the meetings where they spoke about this for the past 3 months? Let's see what school the school board wants to sell next, since they obviously cannot balance a damn budget. Not only are we loosing an emergency shelter, AIRMed field, but we are also creating more traffic down Commack Rd which is NOT needed. I wish the people that voted for the sale would've actually taken the time to go to a meeting or read the budget and see that this is all BS - Let's talk at the next budget when another building will need to be sold because the board can't manage it.

I voted against the sale of the school. In the past when u get a flier alerting you that of these animals will be living by you call the town. If enough people complain they will move them. I did this a few years back. The DP schools also want to sell/rent Lincoln on W15, right next to a packed May Moore. Maybe with that $5 million the schools get they will reduce our taxes, lol!!!
