Deer Park Students Use Math to Raise Funds for St. Jude Children’s Hospital

Young mathematicians at Deer Park’s John Quincy Adams Primary School recently participated in the St. Jude Math-A-Thon for the third year in a row, raising more than $7,200 for the children’s charity. 

St. Jude has been supplying the Math-A-Thon Funbook, a free curriculum supplement, to schools for more than 30 years. Students seek pledges from family and friends to solve math problems in the Funbook, with the proceeds going to benefit childhood cancer eradication at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Working with math lab specialist Marianna Grieco, the students exercised their mathematics skills in completing the Funbooks. The activity not only provided students with beneficial math practice and enabled them to earn prizes, but it also yielded substantial donations for the hospital’s research.

“We are proud and happy to help children and their families at St. Jude,” said Grieco, who noted that this was the most money JQA had raised for the hospital to date.
