Deer Park Teacher Gets Inside Look At Google

Christopher Kauter among 63 educators to attend Google Teacher Academy.

Deer Park High School teacher Christopher Kauter has a love of technology, which he uses to help teach his 10th grade students.

This week, Kauter was part of the Google Teacher Academy in Chicago, where he was one of 63 educators to get a firsthand look at various Google products and resources.

“My goal is to get these kids to have fun while learning and allow them to teach themselves something new,” Kauter told Newsday. “I’m tricking them into learning by having fun and thinking outside the box.”

A Bay Shore resident, Kauter created a mobile web application that connected students to Twitter, a calendar of assignments, class notes, grades and various online resources.

He has also used Google Maps in various classroom lessons and Google Story Builder to challenge his students to develop a conversation among three historical figures.
