DeLuca Jump Ropes for Heart Health

North Babylon students at William E. DeLuca Jr. Elementary School recently showed good character and worked on their physical fitness.

Organized by physical education teachers Vinny Innes and Adam Lewis, students in kindergarten through fifth grade participated in the American Heart Association’s Jump Rope for Heart program during their physical education classes. They learned about the importance of heart health, keeping active and staying fit and eating well-balanced meals.

Coupled with the physical education curriculum, the program allows students to learn about cardiovascular fitness while raising funds for research, educational programs on heart disease, and programs to combat childhood obesity. The Jump Rope for Heart program not only benefits the students through physical activity, but also allows them to use their critical-thinking skills. The students helped plan and organize the event by securing donations from parents and family members. Over the last eight years, DeLuca students have raised more than $7,500 for the American Heart Association.
