Dear Parents and Community,

Hurricane Sandy has brought devastation to the shores of Long Island.  But not even Sandy can keep the spirit and strength of Long Islanders down.

All District Administration, Principals, Facilities, Food Services, and Transportation met onFriday morning, November 2ndto discuss the state of the District.

I know many of you have wondered why schools have not reopened. Unfortunately, as I write this letter, three of our seven buildings have been without power since Monday, October 29th. These buildings are Robert Moses Middle School, William E. DeLuca Elementary, and Parliament Place Elementary, affecting approximately 2,000 students. Our bus garage is also without power and communication. We have been given no further information on the status of the restoration of power. We will continue to monitor the situation and will keep the North Babylon community informed.

North Babylon UFSD’s storm damage has been limited to power outages, downed trees and branches, as well as damaged fencing. Unfortunately, many of our staff and families have notbeen so fortunate.  I will continue to assess the situation over the weekend and be in communication with our Principals and administration regularly.

Updates will be posted as they become available through School Messenger, the District website, and the media. Please make every effort to stay informed.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. I hope that all of our North Babylon families are safe and are doing well through this difficult time.

Sincerely,Patricia E. Godek
