N. Babylon Schools to Host Math Common Core Workshop

Workshop to be held next Monday at the high school.

The North Babylon School District will hold a parent math Common Core workshop next Monday. 

The workshop will take place from 7-9 p.m. at North Babylon High School and is for parents of students enrolled on kindergarten-9th grade (algebra) . 

"Following an informational session regarding the development of mathematical concepts from primary to secondary levels, parents can participate in grade level sessions where teachers will present common core strategies specific to each grade level," a note on the district's website reads.

An informational session will be held from 7 -7:45 p.m. in the high school auditorium, with break-out sessions by grade level to be held from 8-9 p.m. The schedules will be announced to all parents during the first part of the presentation. 

The workshop comes on the heels of a to Long Island by state Education Commissioner John B. King Jr., who heard numerous complaints from parents and educators regarding Common Core during community forums.
