N. Babylon Students Celebrate Valentine's Day with Seniors

Fifth-graders created special art projects at the Spangle Drive Senior Center.

To celebrate Valentine’s Day, and as a way to give back to their community, fifth-graders in Tara Cavanagh’s class at North Babylon’s Marion G. Vedder Elementary School traveled to Spangle Drive Senior Center in North Babylon and worked alongside the seniors to create a special craft.

As an extension of their art class with teacher Lisa Gregorek, the students collaborated with the seniors to create oil pastel heart Valentine’s Day cards in the vein of artist Jim Dine’s “Monotypes et Gravures.”

“This is a really great activity,” said Ms. Cavanagh. “The seniors are so positive with the kids and the students learn to develop good relationships with adults.”
