Reader Feedback: Sandy and Shortened Winter Break

We asked our readers if they are happy their kids are in school this week or if Hurricane Sandy put a crimp on their vacation plans.

Children in Deer Park and North Babylon are in class most of this week (or at least they are supposed to be) as closures due to Hurricane Sandy forced the district to cut short Winter Break.

We asked readers on our Facebook page if they miss having their kids home this week or if their travel plans had to be altered due to the changes in the school calendar. Here's a few of the responses (add your own thoughts in the comment section below):

Allison Miller: It's actually a blessing for us working parents. I'm pretty sure SEAL Team 6 had an easier time finding Bin Laden than I do finding a babysitter. All jokes aside, I don't see the point of winter break. I grew up in FL and we had Christmas and spring breaks, nothing in between.

Kim French-Chadwick: I'm a working parent and took off this week w the kids. We're on a cruise to the Bahamas. Sandy wasn't going to ruin our plans.

Liana Casamassa: I think kids should go to school all year round, with some tiny breaks here and there.

Melissa Ruiz: more than half of the kids are not in school where i work. it's very quiet

Paola Cayea: Yes, I missed them being home for that week. Being a working mother, I look forward to having that time with my children. I look forward to making plans, spending time with them, and just being around them for a whole week without work, school and schedules.

Theresa Colombo: I am THRILLED that my son is in school!!!! Too many breaks disrupts his routine!!!!
