Schools Closed Wednesday

Classes in Deer Park and North Babylon are canceled for Oct. 31.

Frankenstorm leaves behind Halloween tricks as schools in the North Babylon and Deer Park districts remain closed for the third day in a row on Wednesday, Oct. 31.

The announcements came Tuesday afternoon after Hurricane Sandy, which was downgraded to a post-tropical cyclone by the the time it hit New Jersey Monday evening, left 5,475 people in Deer Park without power and 3,850 in North Babylon.

Downed trees and utility poles are also blocking roadways across the area and traffic lights are out all over the hamlets.

Deer Park High School has seen major damage to its pool roof, which was ripped off of the building around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, during the storm. Debris from the roof landed on the school's athletic fields and in neghbors' yards.
