LIU Post’s men’s lacrosse team is off to a strong start and two North Babylon lacrosse stars have played a key role in the Pioneers 3-0 record.
Freshmen Matty Beccaris and Ryan Slane, both members of North Babylon High School’s Class of 2012, each have scored eight goals and are proving to be vital components of LIU Post’s potent offensive attack.
Leading the team with 13 total points (8G, 5A), Beccaris this week was honored by the East Coast Conference for his outstanding play.
He scored a goal and had three assists in the Pioneers' season opening 10-6 win over Queens (N.C.), and followed that performance with three goals and an assist in his team’s 14-5 win over Coker. This past Sunday, Beccaris scored four goals and had an assist in a 15-6 win over Saint Rose.
Beccaris’ strong offensive output for LIU Post is a continuation from his final season at North Babylon High School. In 2012, he scored a team record 61 goals and had 23 assists. He also set a team record for goals in one game with 10.
Slane has also had a strong start to his collegiate career. The attackman had a hat trick vs. Queens and scored five times in the victory over Saint Rose.
In high school, Slane was a four-year varsity player and named All-State and All-Long Island during his senior year.
