Very sad to read of the loss of life and certainly if this was deliberate and successful attempt toRead More end one ... I hope that there will be no follow up ... responsible non reporting of deliberate attempts keeps this possibility out of the radar of others who may have this in mind. Sadly when this happens another soul is helplessly watching as the train does their deed and can never erase that vision ... My heart does go out to the engineer and all those traveling on this train that now carry this in their heart

I'm surprised they wouldn't give me my dog to me after surgery. I knew that there was no staff onRead More and I wanted to take her to an all night emergency after surgery so she could be monitored for the night. I fought with them to get my dog I hit traffic and when I reached them it already closed that B Cindy was at the desk. I asked if my dog made it through surgery and she acted dumb. You don't know me? Yes you do! She got to be kidding me. I don't know you or your dog you need to call the vet tomorrow. I asked is my dog alive, just say yes or no. She refused to tell me. All night I thought my dog was dead. When my husband p/u the dog he got meds the same meds that were administered two days before and were no longer needed. They refused to take them back and charged me a restocking fee after a 1200 bill. Really? I own five dogs and a cat my new vet is very happy to see them! A Cornel graduate is the only vet my dog sees! The nickname for this hospital "Kill your own animal hospital". They are known to bill for everything, you will not come out with either a shot, ear meds, shampoos anything to drive your bill up! Awful place. I will say, Doc L is very knowledgeable with no people skills. So sorry that really sucks! I don't think if Doc L was on it would have happened. He is very compassionate to animals. I just didn't like the staff.

This is such a terrible upsetting story. My heart aches for those two girls. Oh I know. Lets useRead More our hard earned tax dollars so this low life dirt bag can obtain a college education while serving time. For those that wonder what I am talking about, I am referring to the Patch story asking "Should the State Fund College Classes for Prison Inmates?" Throw away the key and let him rot in jail!! Just what he deserves!!

Re: Guards , I mean the off duty Moonlighting police officer kind. Another thing may be cameras atRead More each teller window pointing in the face of the customer just like the ATMs have.
oldfed March 18, 2014 at 04:52 pm
Eddy, sorry, I misunderstood...Yeah, those are the pros! But remember please that cameras are just aRead More feel-good PC piece of technocrap that DON'T PREVENT CRIME. Every night we see muggings, car crashes, etc. on the news. Just like those phony red light cameras they create a nice, feel good mindset that has no connection to reality. Likewise, the police seldom prevent crime, although my idea above might work. Long Island is in the middle of a large heroin war, and the young people in HS and up are the users. That is the reason for bank robberies, IMO. We need to recognize this, and work together. The minute that someone is killed in a robbery, folks will talk about armed security. Unfortunately, it won't register on most people until then.

Thanks for the kind comments Archie. We can always count on you for an intelligent reply. Also, asRead More you can see now at my speak out the editor Ryan bonner rather gracefully replied and stated the issues he is dealing with. They acknowledge problems maintaining the hyper local idea behind the Patch at this time. His situation is very understandable and some of his workaround suggestions are very good - for now. I wish him luck and success. I write a lot at other sites under many different names - national local and special interest site. In the flow of things I commented here absentmindedly failing to keep it hyper local and attracted some foul people. Enjoy the rest of your day Archie and keep up the good work. Looking forward to reading more of your great replies to me. Always short and to the point. Much better than my style. I wish I had your skill

Isn't this so pathetic! This guy just messed up his life over petty theft! Who is he, ProfessorRead More Moron! Incidentally, there are people making comments here about the thief as though he's some Hispanic guy when it turns out he's a white guy but what do you expect from racist people? They're not the smartest people anyway! How can you be smart and a racist? It an oxymoron! In fact, this idiot has already been caught and arrested. I get tired of people blaming the government for every little thing that goes wrong all the way down to local petty theft crimes in local communities! It's ridiculous! The government can't stop every little thing that happens in every little town across the country. Some people are so damn ignorant and hateful, all they do is sit around, waste their lives and complain when they themselves are nothing more than leeches on society. These same people are sitting around doing nothing with their miserable lives other than blaming everyone else for their woes and sorrows!
concerned citizen March 10, 2014 at 02:33 pm

My friends and I were also at Besito when suddenly we noticed there was some commotion at the frontRead More of the restaurant. When we looked to see what was going on, the entire second floor of the art shop was engulfed in flames. Luckily the restaurant staff was calm when we evacuated...nobody panicked and everyone left with their coats. Standing outside with us was an employee of Red who evacuated her restaurant as well. I'm glad that nobody was seriously injured!

That dirt bag will find out how it feels once he's in prison! We need drastic punishments as notRead More even prison seems to deter these sociopaths from abusing people. @BP mom re: "For a super who's only been here a year, he's not making responsible, educatedRead More decisions if you ask me!" I assure you the Super's decisions are both reasonable and educated; they just don't agree with the Group Think of you and the other moms you talked to. You termed his decision yesterday a "very bad decision"; what were the actual results that proved "very bad"? There were none. ....................................................................................................... The Superintendent, in consultation with the Board of Education makes decisions about opening, closing, or delaying school in the face of inclement weather. They are authorized to do that. You, as a parent, make decisions about your own children. In my opinion, which does not count in this at all, is that your decision to keep your kids home was probably the worse of the two decisions made in reaction to yesterday's storm. But those are your kids and you are their mom. They missed a day of school but they stayed home safe and warm. I am sure you know that life is not all safe, and toasty warm; your kids will eventually learn that as well, just not yet.
BP mom February 16, 2014 at 09:37 pm
I wish I was such an analytical genius as you Christopher, thank you for dissecting my comments soRead More we can all have a clear picture. You can add some facts: at the time we were expected to drive our kids to school, because our district does NOT provide buses, snow was falling at a rate of 1" per 20 minutes with golf ball sized snowflakes, to quote the newsman on channel 12, and we could barely see across the street. Plus our street was nowhere to be found under the 8-10" of snow because the plows couldn't keep up. Doesn't sound very responsible and educated to me to expected children and staff to come out in that and our governor agrees as he declared a state of emergency. But again thank you for helping clarify my comment with your expertise as I'm sure you not only live and was present in blue point during the storm but you are a meteorologist also!
Christopher Wendt February 17, 2014 at 08:21 am
Yours was a personal decision for the safety of your own children. Many people across the state wereRead More confronted with that decision this month. Some, like yourself, opted to keep their kids home. Others sent or brought their kids to school, some came later, etc. Those districts that opted not to close were roundly criticized by those parents who kept their kids home, which is understandable. Many parents who took their kids to school also criticized the decision makers. Such is the nature of these things. As Governor Cuomo said to Mayor De Blasio who was being blasted for keeping The City schools open, "That's life. Welcome the The Job!"
