I own a small business in Woodridge IL. The amount of credit card fraud has here has increased tenRead More fold over last year. I have to tell you that the card owner doesn't get burned, the card issuer don't either, nor does the company you hire to process and approve the cards. It's the local merchant where the card was used. Online ordering is the worst. The big banks say you didn't swipe a card, so you're liable, even though it was approved by that same bank at the time of purchase. If this keeps up, I'll have to go backwards in time and shut down online ordering. So much for a cashless society.

I think I will go back to using checks at stores and cash at gas stations. I found a gas station inRead More Eagle Rock that gives a discount for using cash and generally buy my gas there. Not as convenient as using a debit card but I had to cancel my card after using it at Target right before Christmas. What a hassle.
cookiepro2 April 19, 2014 at 06:28 pm
I've started using cash more in the past year for grocery and gas. It's simplified bill paying,Read More reducing the number of credit card receipts that need to be reconciled with statements! Though I still like the 5% discount from using my Target card and the cash back bonus from Discover. Anyway gotta have a good reason now for using my credit cards, either buying online (necessity then) or some reward incentive.

When taxes are imposed on various industries then to stay in business the prices increase on theRead More consumer! Obamacare , gas taxes, payroll taxes, tolls, the proposed soda and candy tax , your tobacco tax is 75% of what the product really costs! Commercial Property tax increases! Do you people see what's going on here? This country is being destroyed by the Democrats! It is starting to resemble The a Soviet Union! We should change the name of this country to the USSA!

And all this time i thought it was Pork Barrel spending.
JBrad April 19, 2014 at 02:57 pm
Mark, Your words are absolutely disgusting. Please do not use this comment thread as a vehicle toRead More spew your racist mentality. And for your information, food-borne illnesses come from agriculture, period. All around the world, including in the U.S. Lastly, your hatred for people of colour does not mean that you understand disease, at all. Good luck in life.

It might as well be Toronto. I'm sure they have a huge fan base in Brooklyn.
Stevo April 1, 2014 at 02:24 pm
knee jerk - that's dumb. but I wouldn't expect anything more from a Ranger fan.

Bill Torreys' Islanders success plan: finish dead last for four or five years, receive a bunch ofRead More low draft picks (who we don't have pay much money to), plug in some veteran role players (who we don't have to pay much money to)and win Stanley Cups until the team either gets old or expensive, then sell off the pieces. Cheap franchise right from the start, nothing magical about those teams. They were stacked with low draft picks, which no longer can work due to the increased number of teams diluting the draft. How well has that worked in the 30 years since?

They could at least repaint the arrows in the parking lot! Was hoping the new market would take careRead More of that. Most dangerous parking lot in Commack!

Similar to Uncle Giuseppe's, its a bit too pricey for regular shopping, at least for a family and aRead More budget.
P. J. Miller April 5, 2014 at 07:55 am
Agree with IMHO. Trying to be like Uncle Giuseppe's but never will! Very expensive can do muchRead More better elsewhere and very limited on alot of items. Shop the circular, but otherwise you can do better elsewhere. Fish dept SMELLED of bad fish so we walked away! It will do well because there is nothing nearby, but a regular supermarket would have been a better choice price wise!
Harold Krongelb March 15, 2014 at 08:11 pm
I liked Commack Kosher and the owner. Unfortunately, there is a lot more competition. Kosher foodRead More is available as Shop Rite locally, and in Plainview, elsewhere, Queens and beyond. I go to Queens at least once a month, as they have a much wider selection.
heidig3 March 27, 2014 at 10:19 am
I now am traveling to Woodbury kosher in Hicksville :( they do however deliver to where I am so IRead More went there and I now will have them deliver so I don't have to go there!! am I happy? NO, but I have to do what I have to do.
CommackMom April 6, 2014 at 07:11 am
Part of the reason they closed was due to an increase in the rent. Although they will be missed IRead More think the main focus here should be Why is the landlord raising the rents substantially when 1) Commack Butcher has been there for a very long time and 2) there are SO MANY empty stores once again.

the baby March 17, 2014 at 02:39 pm
confucius? confusion, maybe. I will refrain from further response to this post. I refuse to sink toRead More this level and answer to a Higher authority. I will pray for your redemption.
Jeannie Ricci March 14, 2014 at 05:34 am
I disagree. I really loved it there. It wasn't a club, it was a lounge, and summer happy hour atRead More Four is something I am going to really miss. The outdoor deck was one of the only places on Rt110 to eat and mingle outside. I hope their next endeavour is just as good!
Lance Mcnally March 14, 2014 at 10:15 am
Aweful. I'm surprised they lasted that long. The service was pompous and the food even worse.Read More Overpriced and over hyped.
TheNanny March 14, 2014 at 12:18 pm
The food was great the one time I are there. But otherwise, nothing positive to say about it. OverRead More priced drinks and food. Too swanky, for a corner of 110 and the business quadrangle, pompous and obnoxious crowd. Intimidating all around. Let's keep the "manhattan-like" lounges Manhattan. Won't be missed!

JACK, The Church IS NOT these human FRAUDS and PHONIES, who hold daily and weekly, POLITICALRead More INDOCTRINATION SESSIONS, AND kowtow to whatever alien political ideology, that is popular, and that they embrace. It is my understanding that ALL religions suffer, to some varying degree, from these FRAUDS. So you have to HOLD YOUR NOSE AND IGNORE THEM, and have enough Faith, that THESE TYPES, are the social flotsam, that is 'PASSING THROUGH', any Society's 'digestive system'...and are anomalies, NOT THE RULE...AND that any 'influence' they have, is temporary...LIKE A MIGRAINE...or a stomach virus !
Robert Demarco March 19, 2014 at 08:07 am
Jack, I am not anti-Catholic. Humans have done harm to the Church(priests, bishops, etc). I donateRead More regularly and directly to the Parish outreach, which helps people all over the Island. I was not referring to regular maintenance in my previous post. They raised money during the recession to install ceramic, marble, and oak in a church that was 20 years old. I feel that it was an unnecessary burden for the parishioners whose generosity is always exploited. And Jack, the main reason for lower contributions is lower attendance at Mass, and there are many reasons for that.
Jack March 19, 2014 at 07:17 pm
Brookhaven Why don't you criticize all religions like you do the Church. Jump on that bandwagon.Read More Bottom line the Church has so much good for the world and I'm not going to let some earthly men detract me from enjoying being a Catholic and attending Mass. I feel very lucky to be Catholic. The combination of all other religions combined do not come near what the Cathokic Charities has done for those in need. If they make a few mistakes, so be it. Why don't you find yourself another religion if you care about God at all. I think you will be disappointed. Robert, I appreciate your post an agree with you. I think things are cyclical and we have a society an culture now that belittle religion and especially the Church. I enjoy the extra room in the pews and look forward to seeing better days with more attendees. I also look forward to a more conservative government that will support faith based operations and the departure of this leaderless government we have now.

The old Sitar site would be lousy -- too far away from anything. I agree the Blockbuster site wouldRead More have been better, but still, happy to see DQ coming to Huntington.

...AND A BODY CONDOM !
BK13 February 6, 2014 at 04:24 pm
Oh stop. What in the WORLD do you care what goes on in a place when you or your loved ones aren'tRead More present? As long as it was cleaned up afterwards (and I believe I read they sanitized it TWICE to appease you lunatics). Question: Do you ever stay in a hotel? Do you really want to know what happened there in the past? Does it really matter as long as you know the hotel cleaned up the room? I guess you can't go on public transportation or touch a doorknob either? People are getting all worked up for no reason at all. Would I ever go to a party like that? Probably not. But I mean really...live and let live.

My cupcakes were meant for more discerning palates, Mr Bunker, not that you would know as I'm sureRead More you were never in my store. I love mean-spirited comments made behind pseudonyms, they truly bespeak cowardice.

It sounds to me that whoever Michelangelo DiLavore delivers for doesn't want competition fromRead More Denny's
Wally J January 28, 2014 at 10:19 am
Look, I'm not defending or singing the praises of Denny's. However , it is not considered a fastRead More food grab on the run food dispenser. It is a sit down restaurant with waiter service and a menu that is not solely served on a bun. I realize that parking is already stressed to the limit on that strip and traffic logistics at that point on DPA is a concern but just how much traffic do you think will be a result of Denny's? They are not building a Walmart there. After the shine wears off it will be fine, just like Sonic.
Bobbie Hurley January 29, 2014 at 10:36 am
I had no idea The Continental was closed. They were always so busy. As for Denny's, I always likedRead More them. Especially their breakfast. I like the idea.
