Deer Park Fire Department Receives PETA Award for Rescuing Dog From Fire

Department receives Compassionate Fire Department Award for their efforts in saving a dog's life last week.

The Deer Park firefighters who rescued a dog from a house fire last week have been awarded PETA's Compassionate Fire Department Award.

"Deer Park's firefighters and rescue workers are truly heroes because they don't consider their job done until all residents—both human and nonhuman—have made it to safety," PETA Senior Vice President Daphna Nachminovitch said in a statement. "PETA hopes the compassion and know-how shown by these first responders will inspire others always to come to the aid of animals in need."

Last Wednesday, Deer Park firefighters responded to a blaze on Old County Road. No residents were home at the time, but firefighters found a dog, named DiDi, trapped inside had grown lethargic from the heat and smoke.
