N. Babylon Children Hold Lemonade Sale for Family That Lost Home in Fire

Children raise $250 in cash and $150 in gift cards for family that lost home last week.

After a fire destroyed a North Babylon home last week, a group of neighborhood children decided to hold a lemonade sale on Saturday with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the family who lost their home.

In a little more than two hours, the children raised $250 in cash and about $150 more in gift cards.

Reese Rowland and Gia Licata thought up the idea to raise money. Jack Rowland, Blake Rowland, Giana Oliva, Giana Scibelli, Lauren Smith, Dylan Smith, Ryan Miller, Sydney Kramer and Mason Kramer all pitched in and helped too.

The fire started last Wednesday morning at a home on Phelps Lane across from North Babylon High School. The blaze is still under investigation but officials say early indications are that the fire was started accidentally by a cigarette on the back deck. The residents escaped unharmed. One North Babylon firefighter was treated at the hospital for minor burns.
